BUDGET
Craftsman 2-beam Self-Leveling Laser Level
This level can be purchased under $100, which puts it in the budget category. It’s small, which makes it very portable and very fragile at the same time. It worked flawlessly when tested, it’s simple to set up and the laser light is extremely bright. However it works on 3 AA battery, which means if you are working on a long-term project, be prepared to change them.
Pros: Works vertically and horizontally, affordable, compact size
Cons: Fragile, not for outside use, battery operated
Overall: Great level for beginners or anyone who needs a backup level
KR Tools 68120 Pro Series Self leveling laser level
This laser is small and can provide you with both horizontal and vertical work. However, the tripod it comes with is way too short to be used for many jobs, standing in at only 49” and it isn’t compatible with other tripods to switch off. At test time it was noticed that the laser beam isn’t completely bright and sometimes the laser was inaccurate. If the laser head isn’t pointed at a 90 degree angle to the wall, the line seems to rise the farther away it gets.
Pros: Good for small projects, works horizontally as well as vertically
Cons: Small tripod, complicated use, can be inaccurate
Overall: This proves that just because it’s called pro, doesn’t mean it’s amazing
MIDRANGE

Pros: Words great outdoors, long battery life, accurate
Cons: Not as durable as others, small
Overall: A good level at a decent price
TOP OF THE LINE
DEWALT DW084K Self Leveling Level
This guy is slightly more expensive than the others, but you get what you pay for. It’s simple to use and works horizontally, vertically, and it’s even good for square applications. The DeWalt is dependable and durable, a big time saver on any project. However if you are working with more than a hundred feet, you might want to find something else. Besides that though, this self leveling laser level works flawlessly.
Pros: Four beam, easy to operate
Cons: Pricy, not good for 100+ feet
Overall: A good level at a decent price
In the end, the more money you spend, the better level you will get. That’s not to say you can’t see decent results with some of the low budget ones, such as Sears’ Craftsman 2-beam. If you just need something to get the job done correctly without all the fuss and without spending a fortune, the Pacific Laser System is the top choice. It’s perfect for jobs around the house and even outside.
